Lafcadio
Hearn began writing about Japan in 1890 with what would become his first volume
Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan. Well over
one hundred years later, Japan is still unfamiliar to many people around the
world - mysterious and enigmatic. Our objective here in this blog is to continue his work, of describing,
explaining, interpreting Japan, both Old Japan and New Japan, its people its
stories and legends, its history and culture through essays, stories, and short
written sketches as well as art and photographs, by Hearn, Basil Hall
Chamberlain, Aoi Tokugawa, myself, and others. We hope you enjoy this
presentation and come to know and love Japan as Lafcadio Hearn did and we do.
